Year 8 Options Information

12 January 2017

Dear Parents / Carers of Year 8

Options Evening: Wednesday 1st February at 6.30 pm

I would like to invite you and your child to attend our Options Evening for Year 8 students. The evening will allow you both to find out more about the courses and choices we offer as part of our Key Stage 4 programme throughout Years 9, 10 and 11.

The evening will begin with a short, general address in Wingfield Hall that aims to familiarise you with the curriculum we will be offering over the next three years and to introduce you to the option pathways available.

Following the introductory presentation, you will move to the sports halls where you will have an opportunity to discuss in more detail your child’s option choices with staff from a wide range of familiar and new subjects. A programme will be available for you on the evening.

Both you and your child may well have some idea of what he or she wishes to study next year already, but we would encourage you to keep an open mind, particularly when there is a range of new subjects on offer or courses that may be quite different from those taken at Key Stage 3. An options booklet will soon be given to your child; I advise you to read this before the evening and bring it with you as a point of reference during the evening.

We understand that this is an important stage in your child’s life and we hope to support you and your child in feeling confident that they are making the right decisions for their future, especially now that students must stay in education or employment with training until they are 19. The choices made this year are a first step on the ladder towards this continued education, training and successful careers.

I would like to stress the importance of attending this evening so that your child is supported in making a fully informed decision.

Yours sincerely

Ben Rhodes
Deputy Headteacher
