GCSE results 2017
Students are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results. Overall, 55% of students achieved the new standard in English and maths as part of the reformed GCSEs.
Top performers include Jamie West and Rachel Stonham who both achieved 11A* (or equivalent), Eloise Sutton 10A* 1A and Ashleigh Sutton 9A* 1A. Rachel Stonham was actually awarded an A* with distinction in further maths, an accolade for students achieving the very highest marks in the country.
Headteacher, Mike Gunston commented, “We are delighted for our students. Coping with the change to the new GCSEs in English and maths has been a real challenge for this year group and they have coped admirably. As an inclusive school we celebrate the progress of all our students and feel very proud of their success. I was delighted to see some of our students achieving the new top ‘Grade 9’ in English and maths. We also saw improved performances by students entitled to government funding to support their learning, which has been a priority across Wiltshire. The proportion of our students achieving the English Baccalaureate, a broad range of academic qualifications, was strong again.
The John of Gaunt School has a strong sense of community and these results demonstrate a true team effort between students, parents and staff.”
