Appointment of Headteacher

Mike Gunston wrote to you all on 31st January informing you that he would sadly, be leaving at the end of this academic year. He described in his letter that the Governors would be carrying out the recruitment process for his successor as soon as practical. This process is now completed.

As you may be aware, this week the students, staff and governors have been participating in the recruitment of a new Headteacher to replace Mike Gunston.

The applications that we received were excellent; and from which we shortlisted six candidates. These candidates were asked to undertake a series of exercises, interviews and presentations over two days, in order to demonstrate their gifts and abilities and how these would enhance and add value to The John of Gaunt School.

The recruitment process has been rigorous, culminating in an interview of the final two candidates yesterday afternoon. Taking into consideration the fantastic feedback from both staff and students, we are pleased to announce that the Governors made a unanimous decision to appoint Paul Skipp.

Paul will join us having served the community of Yate Academy as Principal. He has most recently been a Specialist Leader of Education supporting a number of schools in the South West. Paul’s philosophy is based passionately on the provision of high quality education and its subsequent ability to transform lives.

Paul says:

I am delighted to have been appointed to the post of Headteacher. The John of Gaunt School has a long and successful history and I am thoroughly excited at the prospect of working with the whole community as we strive for even greater success. It will be a privilege to lead such a wonderful school and I look forward to meeting you all in the near future. “

The governors, through the appointment of Paul, are seeking to build upon the excellent improvements and progress developed by Mike and all of the staff team at The John of Gaunt School.

The full Board of Governors last evening, unanimously ratified the appointment and we very much look forward to Paul joining us in September.

Best regards,

David Whewell
On behalf of the Board of Governors
