Year 8 and 9 reading at Walwayne Court School
Every Tuesday afternoon, girls from Years 8 and 9 have the opportunity to visit one of our local primary schools, Walwayne Court, to work with the children there.
Students walk to Walwayne at tutor time, then spend an hour teaching Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children to read. This provides valuable experience should they decide that they’d like to work with young children or become schoolteachers after their GCSE’s.
We feel that this scheme is worthwhile because it helps to instill a sense of community and highlights the importance of helping out in society. The trips also improve students’ basic literacy and – most importantly – are fun. Our students love it, the Walwayne Court kids love it and everyone gets to read more. Winners all round!
