Applying for Sixth Form

Applying for September 2017 entry

For September 2017, students will be studying 3 A levels which will only consist of external assessment at the end of Year 13.  The only subjects where we plan to offer AS qualifications are in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geology.  An AS is now a stand-alone qualification that equates to 40% of an A level in terms of UCAS points.  We have chosen to continue with this approach in these subjects to support students with the step up from GCSE to A level.  Having had success at AS, students will then continue with the A level in these subjects.

Some students will take a combination of A levels and BTECs. Again, we would recommend that students study courses that are the equivalent of 3 courses.  For example, some students might take the BTEC Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 2 A levels) and A level Psychology; this would make a total of 3 academic courses as their core learning package.

On top of this students will make a choice from our Personal Enhanced Offer.  This choice will be made when completing the application form.  Our offer will include the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Duke of Edinburgh, Sports Leaders, Core Maths, Further Maths and work experience.

For students who achieve 8 or more A, A* or grade 7 at GCSE, studying a fourth A level will be considered.

When students complete their application forms, we are asking them to choose 3 subjects plus a reserve, in order that we can cater for as many needs as possible.  Our column structure changes each year to reflect student applications. Please do make sure you complete the application form by putting your subjects in preferential order, as requested in the application form.  The deadline for completed applications to be submitted, is December 16th 2016. Late applications will be considered but curriculum choices may be affected.

Any student entering the Sixth Form without a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths will have to re-sit this course.

This year we are offering a Level 2 transition course in September, for students who haven’t got the grades to start Level 3 courses.  If you’re interested in this course please talk to either Mrs Littleworth, Miss Gaskin or Miss Brunt.
