Welcome to the John of Gaunt Library
Monday – Friday: 8.00am – 3.45pm
Mrs Bruton: Learning Resources Manager
John of Gaunt library is a safe and welcoming place.
From 8.00 – 8.30 every day, the library is a Quiet Zone where students can come in and complete and/or print homework, use IT facilities for school work, return and issue books for the day ahead or simply read.
During break and lunchtimes as well as after school, students are welcome to come in and do all the above but also to play games and socialise with friends.
During the school day Y7 and Y8 enjoy timetabled library lessons. In these lessons, the students follow the Accelerated Reader programme. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice. With AR, the school can create a reading programme to meet the needs of every student. AR produces an average of two years reading age growth in just one academic year.
Using information generated by the software in the form of a Star Test, teachers and our school librarian can help students select books that are difficult enough to keep them challenged, but not too difficult to cause frustration.
Find out more about Accelerated Reader here.
