First letter from new Headteacher

4th September 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s with great excitement and a sense of pride that I write my first letter to you as the new Headteacher of The John of Gaunt School.

From my initial tour of the school in March 2018 and then during my subsequent interview and visits, I have been really impressed by the well-mannered, articulate students, dedicated staff and hugely supportive community. I am now thrilled to have the opportunity of leading this wonderful school and building on its success.

Throughout my career, I have been involved in education and thoroughly enjoyed my previous range of experience as a teacher, senior leader, specialised leader of education and as a headteacher. I now relish the opportunity of working with our highly inclusive and aspirational school community to ensure John of Gaunt continues to move from strength to strength.

As a family man, with a wife and three young children, I fully understand the importance of schooling and recognise the vital nature of children attending a supportive, high quality school that allows every young person to reach their potential.  We all want the best for our children and I have always believed that this is best achieved when schools work in unison with parents and carers.

I am really looking forward to meeting as many parents and carers as possible. To this effect, I want to offer you an opportunity to meet. This will be an informal event designed for me to introduce myself with a chance for you to ask any questions that you may have.

The date is as follows:

Years 7 – 9: Wednesday 12th September 6 – 7 pm
Years 10 – 13: Wednesday 12th September 7 – 8 pm

If you are able to attend, it would be wonderful to see you. I understand there will be people who are unable to attend next Wednesday, therefore, if you would like the opportunity to meet,   please contact my PA, Sandra Nichols on 01225 711156 or in order to arrange an agreeable time.

With kind regards,

Paul Skipp
