In a year full of highlights The John of Gaunt School is celebrating its best ever GCSE progress scores. Progress rates in the core English Baccalaureate subjects including Maths, Humanities, Science and Languages have all considerably increased even further this year, making for an extremely impressive set of results. The John of Gaunt School prides itself for being a highly inclusive school with high expectations and is delighted that students of all abilities, including those with special educational needs have been able to make some extremely positive progress.
Students performing exceptionally well include Lewis Clifton who achieved 4 grade 9s and 6 grade 8s, Will Sheppard and Benjamin Wallis who both achieved 4 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 2 grades 6s, James Bailey who achieved 1 grade 9, 7 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 6 and Joshua Lee who achieved 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s , 2 grade 7s and 2 grade 6s. Overall John of Gaunt students achieved 25 Grade 9s, these were designed to sit above the traditional A*, which in turn will place them in the top 3% in the country!
Stand out students who have made incredible amounts of progress since Year 6 include Chelsey Stanley, Lewis Clifton, Katy Williams and Tess Xiao, all of which achieved on average two grades higher in each of their subjects compared with similar students nationally.
Headteacher Paul Skipp said, ‘I’m delighted that the hard work from students, staff and parents has materialised into a fantastic set of results. We have seen significant increases in a number of subjects this year, and this reflects how tirelessly staff and students have worked. I’m so pleased many of our students will transition into our Post-16 provision so we can continue to celebrate further achievements with them.
I would also like to thank our parents who have worked so hard preparing their young people, and for continuously supporting our wonderful school.
