The Governing Body of John of Gaunt School requires all students in Years 7-11 to wear uniform and fully supports the statements that:

“A uniform can instil pride; support positive behaviour and discipline; encourage identity with, and support for, school ethos; ensure students of all races and backgrounds feel welcome; protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way; and nurture cohesion between different groups of students. Above all, many schools believe that school uniform supports effective teaching and learning.”

Our uniform requirements are intended to be clear and unambiguous.

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the school
  • Supports positive behaviour
  • Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school
  • Is practical and smart
  • Identifies the children with the School
  • Prevents children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class
  • Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
  • Is regarded as suitable wear for School and good value for money by most parents.

The school uniform supplier is Scholars, 55-56 Fore St, Trowbridge BA14 8ET; Tel: 01225 753586
