WELCOME TO OUR TRANSITION PAGE
I am Miss Lewis and I am your head of year alongside Miss Martin, who is our assistant head of year and our job is to ensure you have a smooth transition from primary to secondary school. We know that this is a very daunting time for your family & we hope to make this easier for you all. Alongside this, I teach PE from Year 7 to Year 12 and Miss Martin teaches PSHE, RE & Sociology at A-Level. We have worked together for 3 years now and are very good friends. We both believe that we have the best year group, we can’t wait for you to be a part of it.
I will be coming to see you at your primary school soon. Please make sure you say hello if I see you. Hopefully this page has everything you need to help support you in attending JOG.

THE HOUSE SYSTEM
The student body of the school is divided into 4 houses.
Each tutor group will be assigned to a house. Throughout the year you will compete in these houses in order to win the house trophy.
Our houses were decided by our students. They wanted to be named after mythical creatures.

PGL
In Year 7 it is really important to make friendships, speak to new people & build your resilience. Therefore, in your first term at JoG Miss Lewis will organise for the whole year group to go to PGL Liddington for 3 days & 2 nights. There are lots of activities that you will do. For example, a giant swing, canoeing or raft building, vertical club, zip wire as well as evening activities like the camp fire or Cluedo. We allow students to select their own bedrooms from the groups that are attending, so everyone is more comfortable & you can bring your own snacks (no nuts). There are so many memories and friendships made from this trip that we aim for all students to attend so we can support financially where needed.
Quotes from Students:
“It was really cool and my favourite activities were zipline and axe throwing”
“It was really fun making new friends and speaking to different people you don’t normally”
SUMMER SCHOOL
As a part of our transition offer, we are inviting you to attend our summer school free of charge. It is a fantastic way to get comfortable with our school site, meet staff & meet your peers ahead of starting in September. This week is filled to the brim with activities that will get you working independently, as a team, as well as being creative & practical. Active Trowbridge run these sessions for us & are ready to help you transition into secondary school life.
We have two summer schools running.
- Year 5 (open to all primary schools): Monday 28th July – Friday 1st August 2025
- Year 6 (only if you’ve applied to our school): Monday 4th August – Friday 8th August 2025
All you need to do is scan the barcode & sign up. Active Trowbridge will be in to promote our summer schools in our assemblies & you will see posters around your school.
Quotes from students:
“It was really fun because of the activities & helps you adjust”
“I loved summer school lots and made more friends and got to know the school grounds so I think it’s a good thing to do"
