Content:
At Level 3, students develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of activities and environments within the sport sector and now have the opportunity to specialise in different aspects of sports performance and sports development. The focus remains on enhancing student’s employability, so all units are directly relevant to real life work situations.
There are 3 externally examined units and a choice of centre-assessed units. The units may include the following:
- Sports coaching and activity Leadership
- Sports Injuries and rehabilitation
- Exercise and the body systems
- Effects of physical activity
- Organisation of sport within the UK
- Evaluating performance within a sport
Special Features:
It will develop knowledge and understanding of the sports sector. This course is perfect for students who wish to prepare for employment in sport and the physical activity sector. This course will involve practical and theory lessons, with a variety of assessment methods including examinations, practical work and written assignments.

Attendance:
Attendance is crucial throughout the course as there will be many assignments issued to you that will require completion to a set of deadlines. As well as this, the demands of the course are such that vital course content and practical sessions will form a basis for the information required to complete the assignments and low attendance will impact on students’ subject knowledge and awareness.
Assessment:
The units are graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. The qualification for the Extended Certificate is graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. The Diploma is graded as PP, PM, MM, MD, DD, DD*, D*D*.
Moving On:
By learning a wide range of topics, pupils are able to get a taste of the types of skills and roles available within the sport and physical activity industry. These roles could include coaching or leadership, but may also lead them to study sports coaching, sports science or sport psychology at University.
Assessment
For the Extended Certificate, students take one exam in each year, and complete 3 more units which are assessed via coursework and some practical work.
For the Diploma option, students follow the same as the Extended Certificate, with 4 additional units of coursework which again feature a small amount of practical work.

Sports is a vast industry within the UK, that has numerous options for employment for young people. This could be coaching or personal training, sports administration and organisation, or sport science. Students completing Level 3 Sport and Activity have a range of options available to them, including employment in any of these industries, or further study at University or College.
